Have you been posting to your social media accounts consistently? If you have been following (me/this blog/WOW?) for any length of time, you will have picked up plenty of tips, tricks and advice when it comes to social media for business but how do you measure if your efforts have been successful? Let’s get stuck in.

Review Your Goals

The first thing you need to do when you begin thinking about measuring the success of your social media is review your objectives with social media. Have you been trying to create more brand awareness? Do you want to drive more traffic to your website? Provide better customer service? Ensure your goals align with your overall social media strategy.

Check Your Insights

Your next step is to head over to your social media platform insights to see what posts have been popular according to your objectives. Focus on the metrics that closely align with your current goals and think about what you can do better or more of to achieve those goals.

Here are some common metrics to keep an eye on:

Engagement

If your objective is connecting with new and existing customers on their level then you should check out your engagement rates on your social media platforms and look at what posts have being doing well in terms of likes, shares and comments.

Conversions

Are you trying to drive more traffic to your website or landing pages? If the answer is yes, then this is the metric for you. How many link clicks are you getting on your posts? Are some styles of content outperforming others you have tried?

Audience Growth

The audience growth metric will track how many new followers have joined your pages within a certain timeframe. This metric is useful to determine if you have been reaching a new audience if your objectives include brand awareness.

Impressions

Impressions and reach often get confused for one another but they are different. Your impression count shows you how many times your content has been displayed on social media in the feeds of others. This is useful to track how many times the platform is showing your posts to others and when.

Reach

Perhaps more important than impressions depending on your goals, reach allows you to see how many times your content has been viewed or engaged with in some way. This helps you to track how often and when people are seeing your posts and what actions they take.

I/we hope this has helped you discover more about how to measure the success of your social media. If you would like to take a deeper dive into social media metrics, you can find out more about what we can do for you here.
